Joe Martino was named the head coach of the Hammonton Blue Devils in the summer of 2001, becoming
the 7th head coach in the last 20 years at Hammonton. Martino replaced
Frank DiMeo who served as head coach from 1997 to 2001. In his 16 years of coaching
experience, Martino has served as an assistant coach at two high schools, an assistant coach at 3 different colleges and a
Sports Counselor at a community college.
Joe Martino's coaching experience began with the Hammonton Bulldogs basketball program from 1988-1991. From there, Martino took a position as an assistant coach at Hammonton High School from 1991-1993. Martino then left Hammonton to become an assistant coach at Bucks
County Community College during the 1993-1994 season. After his brief stint at Bucks County, Martino served as an assistant coach at Centenary College (Division III) from 1994-1995 and as an assistant coach at Millersville
University (Division II) from 1995-1997. Following Millersville, Martino became
an assistant coach at Manheim Central High
School in Pennsylvania. Martino's travels then took him to Arizona where he became
the Sports Counselor in charge of mental training at Scottsdale Community
College during the 2000-2001 season.
Martino returned to Hammonton High School
(where he also played for three years) as the head coach in 2001. At Hammonton, Martino has spearheaded the resurgence
of the long suffering program. In 2008, the program reached its highest point by achieveing the most single season
wins (22) in program history and winning the Cape Atlantic League American Conference title. This was the first boys
basketball title of any kind at Hammonton since the 1949-50 season. Also, in 2008 the Blue Devils reached the South
Jersey Group III Finals falling to Timber Creek 58-50. For his efforts, Martino was awarded the Atlantic City Press
Coach of the Year award. Martino also served as an Assistant Coach for the Al Carino Club South Jersey All Star Game
as well as the Head Coach at the annual Dixie Howell Cape Atlantic League Senior All Star Game.
Martino earned a B.A. in Health and Physical Education from Rowan University. Martino also earned an MED in Special Education from Millersville
University and an MA in Sports Psychology from Argosy
University in Phoenix, Arizona.
Martino is currently a guidance counselor at Hammonton High
School. He and his wife Michelle reside in Hammonton.
They have one son, Matthew Kyle.
